You Can Now Store PS5 Games on External Hard Drives
With a small step forward, PS5 games can be stored on (but not played from) an external hard drive.

One of the first issues that I ran into when I got my PS5 was storage. When you get your PS5 and all is said and done you're left with about 660GB of storage for some massive games. If you play something like Call of Duty: Warzone well then you might as well kiss most of your hard drive goodbye. For me, I end up with around 8-10 games before I have to start deleting games to make space. External storage would fix this problem like it did with the PS4 but you can't use external storage with PS5 games. Sony has a solve for that and it's probably not what you were hoping for, but it is something.
Because PS5 games take advantage of the console's SSD they can't be played from external storage. But what you can do now is transfer your PS5 games from your console to your external storage, clearing up a bit of space and you won't have to redownload them again in the future. Not being able to play games from external storage as 660GB is not much space at all for games is a bummer, but this is a small step forward and should help alleviate some of the struggle with trying to find space for your PS5 games. Sony is actively still working on supporting storage expansion with M.2 drives but there is no ETA on when that will arrive.
